HCCADC Coalition Meeting

Opened. 4:03 pm, Terence Gorski, Chairman called the
meeting to order.

Shellie Lavore, Mary A. Staib, Tresa Watson, Sandra Marrero, Mary Benedett,
Debra Pilla, Tom Garcia, Joe Berry, Nancy Vargo, Lisa Hammond, Doris Bedell,
and Terry Gorski.
IV.
February 23, 2005 Minutes Reviewed & Approved.
Terry Gorski called for a motion for the minutes of the last meeting to
be approved. The motion was made by Mary
Staib and seconded by Lisa Hammond.
Motion carried.
V.
Financial
Report. Treasurer, Janice Ferguson was absent and
there was not financial report.
VI.
Florida Statewide Alcohol Initiative. This is the official title for the
recently awarded grant. Some members
have refereed to it as the Binge Drinking Project. The first phase of the grant is October 1, 2004 – Through September 30, 2005. Shellie Lavore gave overview of grant discussed the role of the Hernando County School
Board as a pass through agency only, the Hernando County Community Anti-Drug
Coalition and the School Board are complete separate entities. Shellie also stated that the Alcohol Task
Force is a subcommittee of the HCCADC.
VII.
Program
Coordinator. Nancy Vargo was selected by
unanimously vote as the Program Coordinator governed by the Florida Statewide
Alcohol Initiative grant. Chairman
Terry Gorski stated the Coalition Personnel Committee consisting of Sandra
Marrero, Beth Lord, Harriet Martin, Doris Bedell and Tresa Watson did an
excellent job with the entire process.
VIII. FAADA Regional Coalition Building. Nancy Vargo
gave a brief explanation that FAADA is hosting coalition training meetings and
she would be attending the first one on April 14 & 15, 2005 and invited any
members to join her. The coalition
approved the funding for Nancy to attend the
conference.
IX.
Grant Financial Issues. Lisa Hammond
asked who was going to monitor the funds of the grant. Shellie Lavore confirmed that she will work
with Pat Gizzo in the School Boards financial office, will be asked to provide Nancy with the finances and the mechanisms for processing
grant funds.
X.
Miscellaneous
Items. Mary Benedett has joint the
Alcohol Task Force. The Coalition has
approved for Shellie Lavore to attend the Drug Summit in May, 2005. Doris Bedell represented the Coalition on
behalf of her invitation by Hernando Progress and presented a summary of the
event. Doris was excited to
announce that substance abuse made the short list, under the category of
Quality of Life Issue, Substance Abuse and Violence. Doris feels the outcome of Summit needs to be connected with substance abuse because
it is so prevalent in Hernando County. Lisa Hammond
represented the Anti-Drug Coalition at the World’s Greatest Baby Shower. Tresa Watson was presented with an award of
recognition for her contributions to the collation.

Adjournment. Lisa Hammond called for a motion to
adjourn at 5:10 pm, motion seconded by Doris Bedell.
