Meeting Minutes

July 26, 2006

 

Present:  Debra pilla, Sandra Marrero, Lisa Hammond, Major Alan Arik, Harry Hill, Tresa Watson, Tara Oliver

 

Meeting called to order at 3:30 p.m.

 

Tresa presented a motion to accept meeting minutes from previous HCCADC meeting. Lisa clarified community mobilization.  Tara second the motion.  Minutes accepted with amendment.

 

Chill Smart Roller skating Party

Tara Oliver reported 184 people attended the roller skating party (including members).  Chill Smart made $162.00.  The target audience of middle and high school students attended.  Conduct was admirable and many parents helped out.  Rinker donated trays of cookies, Winn Dixie donated cases of soda.  Cash donations were received from Gorski, Watson and Meyers family.  The youth grant paid for the roller skating rink, and flyers.  Debra recommended email alerts for future events.  Lisa will contact the local radio station (WWJB) to announce next event.  A discussion regarding where flyers were placed occurred.  At the event, 12 teens became Chill Smart members.  Two of those 12 attended the Chill Smart meeting on 7/25/06.

 

Operation Back Pack

Tara Oliver reported Operation Back Pack is sponsored by the City of Brooksville.  Book bag and school supplies are distributed from 10am-12pm on 8/4/06.  Chill Smart members will volunteer to stuff the back packs this year.

 

Chill Smart Dance

The dance will be 8/19/06, Tresa met with County Commissioners to waive $350. fee for the use of the Jerome Brown Community Center.  The D.J. will charge $175.00, and he will play from 7-11 p.m.  Donations are needed for food and prizes. Tara asked to be notified if someone does request a donation, so as to avoid duplication.  Tresa requested receipts for any donations be given to her.  She is keeping track of “In-Kind donations.  Tresa  made packets including sponsor letters and HCCADC Information for anyone soliciting donations.  A donation from Publix was received for $50.00.  It will be used for food for the dance. Major Erik asked if City of Brooksville Police will be present.  Tresa will contact Chief Ed Tincher and Mary Staib to request an officer.  The dance will require 10-12 chaperones.  Tara will acquire an approval letter from school board prior to start of school.  The letter will permit HCCADC to distribute flyers at school.

 

UDEL

Tara reported that she, Lisa, Donna and Deputy O’Banner will be the adults attending this year Underage Drinking Enforcement Conference in Baltimore, MD. Four youth members of Chill Smart also attending.  Future conferences may be in September in Orlando, FL

 

Community Kick-off

The kick-off will be held September 16th from 10:00-1:00 p.m..  Lisa Hammond presented to the Kiwanis Club on Monday & they will make a decision on Tuesday.  Major Erick initiated a conversation regarding the HCCADC/Chill Smart role at the event.  Chill Smart youth will bring Night Vision goggles.  The youth will help supervise events available to public.  Lisa will check into “the smoking baby” display available from the Department of Health.  Lisa stated that all of the money from YAAPI grant will not be used.  She suggested a Youth Summit 1st week of November.

 

Art Contest

Tresa said the Art Contest can be invoiced by Sept. yet held in November.  Tara recommended each take 3 or 4 schools to call Art teacher.  A phone call 1st, then letter and follow up phone call.  First prize will be a billboard,  2nd & 3rd prize winners receive $100.00 gift cards. Discussed pros and cons to “Sticker Shock Initiative” .  Lisa reported it was a greater task than originally believed.

 

SPF-SIG

Lisa reported there will be 2 Town Hall  Meetings in Spring 2007.

 

Family Day

Sandra reported we can collect Pledges for Family Day.  However, a proclamation is needed. Lisa requested the email info.  She will proceed for proclamation.  Park for Family Day will be addressed at next meeting.

 

Business Plan

Lisa mentioned the need to prioritize from Business Plan.

 

Storage

Tresa stated space was donated by family member of Chill Smart member to store Chill Smart supplies.

 

Parent Workshops

Debra Pilla stated she is partnering with SEDNET to offer Parent Workshops.  Debra requested Chill Smart have a booth.  Tara agreed. Once flyers complete, Debra will pass along with further info.

 

Sandra made a motion to adjourn meeting at 4:54 p.m. Debra second the motion.  Meeting closed at 4:54p.m.
